Forbes magazine's list of economic blogs has recently added New Economist. In his review, Adam Freedman says the blog "offers a slightly different look at economics", and "focuses on less academic economics and more practical economics". Its good points include "an extensive list of links, including links to other economic blogs and links to helpful economic resources". But there are some negatives too. In particular:
One drawback is the blog's layout; while some blogs offer previews of each post on the main page and then the full post on a separate page, the New Economist puts its full, lengthy posts all on the main page, making the page convoluted and difficult to navigate.
I agree, and have started to amend recent posts accordingly. Adam also doesn't like "an undue reliance on quotations" (also agree), and "a robotic color scheme make the blog difficult to read" (huh?). Expect some changes around here folks. Suggestions on a new design and colour scheme are also most welcome.
I like your design better than Forbes.

Design is a matter of personal taste. Yours is as good as most so don't do anything too drastic. In particular, you said that you were advised to put up only a brief introduction of each post on the main page. Be careful following this advice. Some blogs lose readers such as myself with too brief an introduction which fails to convey what the article is about. One has to follow the link to begin reading the full article only to find that one isn't interested in that particular topic. This may sound a bit pedantic, but it does get annoying repeatedly going to links and back to the main page over and over again.
I'm not talented enough in design to recommend any site format. However, I suggest that you take a quick look at samizdata.net/blog/. Their format is excellent.
Good luck with the changes.

For my tastes you're color scheme, quotation use, and length of posts on the main page are just fine. I for one like to see the post all on one page rather than click continue reading. In short, I wouldn't change a thing.

Change your font, play around and try to use something a little more compact.
tigthen the main column to make it a fixed... 400-550 pixel wide, not more. maybe change the background color of the columnn to somethin light, cream or something. or else keep it white and put a frame around it.
the colour scheme is not bad, just a little too crude for my taste, try staring a your banner for 30 second to see what i mean.
