Can they be blamed? Imagine an Indonesia style crisis happening in China or India!

Ashish Hanwadikar

Indian Prime Minister is forced to show shallow concern for the rural poor. If he really wanted to help the rural poor, shouldn't he be liberalizing the labor laws? Wouldn't that generate more employment and expansion of the manufacturing sector? But alas, the Left won't allow him to do that. So he is forced to pay lip-sympathy.

I think the writer is ill informed about the indian politics, the prime reason for BJP led govt. defeat was anti incembency working against its colition partners and not BJP alone...so saying that earlier govt focussed only towards urban class is a little too exaggerated..secondly even the present govt finds itself unable to further the development process beacuase of ideological difference between coalition partners namely communists and congress. Secondly huge defeat of UPA in Bihar elections is only a gim reminder of where a helpless and poor Economist has failed as a leader.
