My hypothesis is that blogging is supply-driven. In my experience economists are a loquacious lot. So when there's no opportunity to talk, well just find a substitute and log on.

Hey, just for the record, I started blogging more or less exactly the same time Brad did :).

I think there was a big blogging push from O'Reilly and Co, and that was what set it all off.
